Sabiana increases its growth potential thanks to integration in the AFG Group

Corbetta, 27 June 2014 - As of 1 July 2014 Sabiana S.p.A. will become a part of AFG, Arbonia-Forster-Holding AG, and will therefore be able to benefit from a wider product range on offer, as well as from the AFG distribution network for residential construction. Furthermore, through AFG Sabiana S.p.A. will have the opportunity to be active on markets worldwide. Following the agreement, the customers of Sabiana and AFG will be able to count on the complete product range of the AFG Building Technique division in all sectors: heating of industrial, retail and residential buildings; industrial and retail ventilation; environmentally compatible air conditioning technologies; improvement of indoor air quality. The choice made by the two families who own the company was dictated by the wish to ensure Sabiana has a future beyond personal fate, by transferring the company to managerial leadership. AFG is an international group, technological leader in the production of materials for construction. With its three divisions (Building Enclosures, Building Technique and Building Safety), it is able to cover all construction needs, both for the exterior and the interior of buildings. The company has a worldwide presence and owns more than 40 distribution companies, with representatives and partners active in more than 70 countries. The 11 main production facilities are in Switzerland, Germany, France, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, United States and China. On the whole, the company employs about 6,300 people. Thanks to integration of the Sabiana product range, the AFG Building Technique division will be able to supply – under the brands Kermi, Arbonia, Prolux, PZP and Sabiana – a comprehensive programme, from individual components to complete system solutions in the sectors of heating, conditioning and ventilation technology, as well as in the bathroom fixture sector. Sabiana will be integrated as an independent business unit in the Building Technique division, within which it will be able to continue evolving. The current management – consisting of the two founding families – as well as production will remain in Italy. Ulrich Bornkessel, Head of International Markets & Sales at AFG, who boasts over 20 years of experience in the conditioning and ventilation sector, will take charge of the unit. Exceptionally high temperatures were recorded in November. The pollution alarm goes off.

In a year that might become the hottest ever recorded worldwide, this month our country recorded exceptionally high temperatures, at late spring levels, with severely affected glaciers. The temperatures well above the season’s average and ensuing fog raised the levels detected by the measurement stations of fine dust and other pollutants, the concentrations of which were extremely high in some cities. Fine dust that is not cleared by rain keeps circulating in our air, outdoors as well as in the home! And the quality of indoor air is a “hot” topic as shown by the conference on “Air quality assessment in confined residential and work spaces: a powerful prevention tool” that took place at the end of October in Lecco, actively promoted by the Public Health Laboratory of the Local Health Authority’s Prevention Department. “Prevention in residential and work spaces is the foundation of all actions taken to protect health and promote an ever better quality of life,” said Dr. Antonio Gattinoni, Health Director of the Lecco Local Health Authority. The conference allowed different professionals (preventive doctors, surveyors, biologists, engineers, architects, chemists) to exchange views on air quality in residential and work spaces and to indicate preventive and sanitising actions to be implemented in designing buildings and air handling systems. Architects recommend energy saving installations

Architects take the field to urge the Government not to waste the opportunity offered by the recently funded upgrade of school buildings. They identify in the Call for architectural projects the best tool to ensure projects lead by example in upgrading metropolitan spaces and are willing to offer to institutions their digital platforms that make the calls for architectural projects quick and cost-effective. They also offer to the Government and Municipalities the synthetic guidelines they have drawn up for upgrading existing schools and designing new school complexes. The recommendation to use energy saving installations stands out from the other guidelines. In this perspective, Sabiana offers a wide range of solutions, from radiators with electronic motor (electric consumption is equal to 25% of traditional ones), to high efficiency and very low pressure loss electronic filters, radiant ceiling panels able to assure the best possible comfort, energy consumption being equal. Sabiana and Expo.

The Azerbaijan pavilion was one of the most admired at the Expo. The itinerary devised by the designers winds through three glass spheres on several levels, representing three different biospheres. The first represents landscapes, the second Azerbaijan’s nine climatic zones and the third represents traditional cultures and innovation. The country’s natural, agricultural and productive resources are shown on three levels, connected by escalators. The structure’s air-conditioning was not easy to install, also owing to its spherical shape. Essentially, it was required to find quite a low AHU that still had sufficient air flow and power to cool and heat the premises, which owing to the large glazed surface had a high sensitive thermal load – all that with a noiseless machine. Sabiana’s OCEAN solved these issues. 100 million Euro for improving energy efficiency in southern Italian regions

Among the types of operations that may be approved for funding we highlight the following: streamlining, improving efficiency and/or replacement of heating, air conditioning, power supply and lighting systems, even if used in processing cycles for reduction of energy consumption (e.g. building automation, low-power engines, inverter installation, systems for management and monitoring of energy consumption) The allowance that may be granted is a non-interest-bearing loan with amortisation over a period of 10 years equal to 75% of the investment programme cost: the remaining 25% must be provided by the beneficiary as own funds and/or bank debt not covered by any public subsidy. In this perspective, among the solutions in its catalogue, Sabiana promotes a series of products that comply with the requirements of the Energy efficiency Call and specifically: 1 For Companies, Warehouses, Gyms and Sports halls: replacement of the old air heaters with new ECM Air Heaters with inverter driven brushless motor that assure 50% savings in ventilation consumption 2 For the service industry (offices, hotels and residences, hospitals, shops and shopping centres) - Replacement of the old fan coils with new ECM fan coils with inverter driven brushless motor that assure up to 70% savings in ventilation consumption - Implementation of the Supervision system of Sabianet fan coil networks for daily and weekly programming and monitoring of energy consumption 3 For all applications that include Air Handling Units (AHU): - Installation of Crystall Electronic Filters with 30% reduction in ventilation consumption, increase of filtering efficiency and reduction in filter maintenance and replacement costs - Installation of fans with brushless motors with built-in inverter with a 30% reduction in power input and integrated air flow control. This is an extremely interesting opportunity also for those who need to modernise obsolete systems and may do so making use of zero-interest rate public funding, thus increasing the system's energy efficiency and reducing management costs.
